Yu Hikosaka Moves Up To The Runners

An exciting start to the Capitals franchise has produced many highs and surprisingly few lows. One of the brightest of bright spots has been the play of Yu Hikosaka. That play was rewarded Saturday night with a call up to the Topeka RoadRunners of the NAHL.

Hikosaka leads the Capitals in scoring despite leaving for a spell to represent his home country of Japan in the World Juniors Tournament. For Team Japan, Hikosaka racked up two goals and three assists in five games. “It was a true honor to represent my country at such a prestigious event,” said Hikosaka. “I’m very thankful to the organization and ownership group for letting me take time away from the team and my teammates to pursue this opportunity.”

With 29 pts on 15 goals and 14 assists, Hikosaka has exploded with 15 pts off 10 goals and five assists in only three games including three straight hat tricks. This offensive output caught the attention of RoadRunners Head Coach Scott Langer and the call up was made.

“Yu is a phenomenal hockey player and even better person,” said Capitals Head Coach/GM Anthony Bohn. “His leadership and approach to the game is something special. Our organization is very proud of him and know this is only the first step towards a bright future for him.”

The Topeka Capitals franchise is less than a year old and is already making great strides in the development and advancement of its players. This commitment is the hallmark of the RoadRunner franchise as a whole and is why the organization is respected around the league and at the next level.
